About Us
Our mission is to preserve sight and prevent blindness.
Established in 1965, Prevent Blindness Oklahoma is the only non-profit agency in Oklahoma dedicated exclusively to fighting blindness. Prevent Blindness Oklahoma is an affiliate of the national organization, Prevent Blindness America, which was founded in 1908.
"Lookie" is the mascot for our Children's Vision Screening Program, which is the cornerstone of Prevent Blindness Oklahoma. We have been providing vision screenings for children at preschools, day cares, Head Starts and public schools for 45 years. Prevent Blindness Oklahoma provides services in all 77 counties in Oklahoma. We also provide safety and educational programs, as well as, serve as an information and referral service for Oklahomans.
During the 2009 - 2010 school year alone, we:

provided 260,939 children's vision screenings

referred 26,180 of these children to an eye care professional for
further evaluation

provided these services in over 1,100 locations throughout the
State of Oklahoma

provided free eye exams and glasses for over 200 children during
the school year.

identified over 200 children as a direct result of our screening with amblyopia as reported to us from their health care providers.
